The Almon Solutions Ltd personal security device (PSD) is an essential investment for a care home or for anyone who has an elderly friend or relative who lives alone and is vulnerable in some way or suffers from a mental illness like Alzheimer’s.

In a residential care home or day care centre, the PSD can offer a tailored monitoring service. If a client were to fall and be unable to get up, helpers responding to the pressing of the SOS button could use GPS to locate the client’s position, either inside or outside the building.

If the client were to feel threatened or to become unaware of their surroundings, use of the SOS button would notify the relevant phone numbers configured in the PSD phonebook and send the client’s user ID. The PSD data would also be sent to the alarm monitoring software database, giving an exact GPS position, together with an ability to log on to the database and view on Google maps the position to street detail, with satellite street map or hybrid views. The PSD can also be configured with a proximity setting, which allows a geofence to be set around the user. If a client has use of the PSD in a care or residential home, a geofence of 30 metres radius (variable) can be set. In the event of the client stepping outside the 30 metres radius, the PSD will notify the relevant phone numbers configured in the PSD phonebook, allowing a care worker to assist the client and return them safely to the care home. Using the PSD in this environment can reduce the concerns of staff about the whereabouts of vulnerable clients, thereby releasing them to carry out other tasks. Of course, the use of a PSD system also reassures the client’s relatives that the safety of their family member is guaranteed.

The software database can be managed in two ways: either by Almon Solutions Ltd’s alarm monitoring centre or by the purchase of software licensing to allow the database to be managed locally on a workstation. Both management solutions have their benefits. If Almon Solutions Ltd are responsible for the management, a 24hr/365 days per year service will be available, along with immediate response to the relevant contacts, together with the exact position, speed and the user ID. If management is carried out by the care home, there will be access to the database locally on a server. Another benefit of local management is that staff can react immediately to an alarm, even before logging on to the database, thereby increasing their chances of stopping the client leaving the immediate area. In any event, a GPS position can be quickly acquired and a detailed map presented to help find the client. In the same way, staff can respond without delay to an SOS alert from a distressed or injured client. By polling the PSD at any time to locate speed and position, it is easy to find a client.

Finally, if you have a elderly friend or relative who has Alzheimer’s or another form of mental illness and is liable to wander off  without notice, or lives on their own and is at risk from intrusion or a fall, the PSD can be used to ensure their safety. You can respond in the same way to any alerts by logging on to the Almon Solutions Ltd database and so locate the client at any time. Because the safety of your loved ones is guaranteed and you know where they are, your life will be made much less stressful.
